At last, unfollowing people on Twitter can be fun and rewarding thanks to a nifty free mobile game app for iPhone and Android dubbed ChumpDump. Even the name is fun! ChumpDump posits that friends are the currency in 21st century life and sees the obsession with collecting friends in every social network. But how many of them are really friends? That’s the questions ChumpDump forces you to answer!
ChumpDump is a game wrapped around the concept that we are all following way, way to many people on Twitter and that our friends list is bloated with, well – Chumps.
How ChumpDump Works
The ChumpDump lottery picks a winner out of your friends list each day and then digs through a month of tweets. It tells you a story about the supposed friend with an analysis including some of the usual suspects – number of DM, number of replies, and whether they following you. ChumpDump adds even more sophisticated analysis like the person’s Klout Influence (www.klout.com) and even a social graph for you to explore.

Then comes the big question – Save or Dump. You decide. If you save someone you get a few points, if you simply dump them you’ll earn even more points, but if you provide the reason behind your dump decision you’ll earn extra points. What’s more, ChumpDump saves your reasons for saving or dumping an individual which provides a compelling reason for checking out the game for those of you who are constantly monitoring your online reputation.
What ChumpDump Helps You Learn
Dan Rockwell, co- founder of Big Kitty Labs (BKL), the group behind ChumpDump puts it this way:
“This ‘why” data goes after THE biggest question on twitter and social networks today, how do people determine who to follow online and why? We all have expectations into who we choose to follow online. Today however we’re all following so many friends, we’ve often forgotten why and the fire hose of status updates drowns us over time. ChumpDump brings that whole reality to light and asks you simply to clean up your friends list- who is worthy and who’s the chump, and best of all, tell us why.
The game shares the whys with everyone playing, everyone can see why in an anonymous way so that we don’t know who did what. Players are even given the opportunity to tweet out their dumps and saves- surprisingly a lot of do just that.
The game also sports a popular game mechanic found in many online, mobile and location based games today- badges. Player earn rewards not just in a simple point system but are offered badges for unique wins within the game. “Players want to be recognized…” Said VanBrimmer, BKL’s PR guy, “you need to constantly show the fun of the game so that people keep playing can earn something in return for telling us why they save this person or dump another.”
To add a little sweetener to those of you who are curious about your social media reputation, BKL has launched ChumpDar – a mashup showing who has been ChumpDumped across the planet. The ChumpDump radar map simply displays location markers of dumpees so the only way to know if you are on the map is to play.
ChumpDump is available for Google Android and Apple iPhone running iOS4. ChumpDump can be found online at www.ChumpDump.com, on Twitter: @ChumpDump and on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/ChumpDump. You can follow Dan Rockwell @floozyspeak
