We Asked and a few hearty and helpful souls answered! This week, the week that began August 16, 2009 will always be memorable here at the Fools Network. This is the week we officially launched TwitterFools and these brave individuals were the first to step up and be counted! They boldly shared their twitter insights with us and now we are sharing them with you. These kind contributors will long be associated with our launch and we are most grateful for their support.
Without further adieu here are this week’s Twitter tips from our friends:
@heathero shared, “When you reply to someone, especially if the tweet wasn’t sent within the last few minutes, “Retweet” at least a portion of it. It helps the recipient, and others “following” understand the context of the reply. For example, you sent me a tweet last night that said “You are so right! Great point!” in response to something that I had just said, but I didn’t see it until this morning. If I now reply “thanks!”, you probably won’t remember what I’m thanking you for, and no one else will know either! By “retweeting”: thanks re: “You are so right! Great point! You are making that tweet more relevant for everyone…and, as a bonus you’ve just told everyone again that someone thought you were smart! Even better.”
- It’s worth noting that @heathero also shared some great tips in her comment on our post stop twitter spam. Click the link to view those bonus tips!
A user who asked that we don’t divulge her name shared, “Create an account with identi.ca, then create an account with ping.fm, and then tie your ping.fm account to Twitter and identi.ca. (You can also tie your account to other networks like Facebook and MySpace). You can then post tweets via ping.fm and they will appear at all networks you’ve tied to ping. Why? Google ranks ping’s tweets higher than Twitter for some reason.”
@1918 suggests, “Don’t tweet more than twice in one minute, it clogs your followers stream. Don’t be that guy”
We are grateful to @1918, @heathero, and our anonymous poster for being the first of what will surely be a long list of user submitted twitter tips.
Maybe you noticed or maybe you didn’t but you are invited to submit your own twitter tips to share with our community. While we do request your email address when tips are submitted we’ll only use that if needed to make sure we understand your tip – after that…we’ll safely forget it.
We’ll post most all tips at the end of each week, but the very best will be held in secret until they are shared in our monthly eNewsletter. Stay tuned for details on that. So, eventually all your great twitter advice will get out. Well, within reason. We won’t post tips with foul language. We won’t post tips that encourage spam and we won’t post repeats of tips we’ve posted in the past unless, that is, they expand and build on the past tip.
Remember, these TwitterFools are working for you. So, let us know what you think! Please comment below or send us a tweet @twitfools
