Renewable energy has become an international priority as nations seek to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and attempt to slow the advance of global warming.  Being GREEN has become a personal mission of many individuals and communities as well as a marketing differentiators for some corporations. So, this #followfriday we are devoting our Twitter Idol Awards on those tweeps who have demonstrated a commitment to helping us all understand and apply renewable energy strategies.

In our first Twitter Idol Awards list we took a look at the entertaining side of Twitter with our Top 10 Funny Tweeps.  However, Twitter is far more than just a medium for entertainment, it is also a rich source of information; some reliable and some not so much.   Therefore, we wanted to share our list of businesses and individuals who are tweeting about renewable energy, one of the most important issues of our time. As we researched our list we looked not only at the number of followers each has amassed, but the great number of votes of confidence they’ve already received through their inclusion on many tweeple’s personal Twitter lists.

President Obama was elected, in part, for his stance on renewable energy.  His administration’s recent announcement of a $3.4 billion push for the ‘smart grid’ is both strongly supported and criticized.  As the United States and other nations head down the renewable energy path and consider the commitment of significant tax payer dollars it behooves us all to become educated on the issues and their wider implications. We believe our Twitter Idols Award winners in the renewable energy category will help do just that.
