Twitter-Idol-top-10-funny-tweeps

TwitterFools is pleased to announce the first in a series of posts devoted to our Twitter Idols. It seems fitting on Follow Friday #ff  that we share our first list of tweeps we follow passionately. In our inaugural round of the TwitterFools Twitter Idol Awards, we honor those tweeps who make us laugh. We are talking more than mere giggles – tweets from this gang have been known to cause uncontrollable fits of laughter. If you could use a bit of levity in your day – we suggest you follow them too.

Our editors sifted through thousands upon thousands of Twitter profiles of many tweeple worthy of this great honor, but in the end we had to boil it down to our top 10 funniest tweeple.  Some of these tweeps are funny tweet after tweet and for others you need to follow their stream closely to appreciate the subtleties of their humor.

No doubt, it is a great honor to receive the inaugural  TwitterFools Twitter Idol Award so we are asking our friends to help these tweeple bask in the glow.  Send them a tweet and let them know they’ve won! Let them know their tweets are appreciated and encourage them to keep the funny coming.

Without further adieu, drum roll please….

The  TwitterFools Twitter Idol Award: Top 10 Funny Tweeps go to…

shitmydadsays @shitmydadsays is, without a doubt, the source of more belly laughs than any of the others. However, this TwitterFools Twitter Idol Award top prize comes with an adult content warning.  Foul language is par for the course on this twitter stream, but if you are okay with that, get ready to fall off your chair! Justin, the author of these tweets writes, I’m 29. I live with my 73-year-old dad. He is awesome. I just write down shit that he says.”
rainn-wilson @rainnwilson is just funny.  He’s funny on tv, he is great in movies, and he’s even funnier on Twitter.  Plus, unlike some other celebs he actually engages with tweeple.
hodgman @hodgman is also consistently a source of good humor.  An admitted ‘minor tv celebrity’ for his role as PC in the Apple commercials, he’s also a well regarded author. Learn more on Areas of my expertise.
Funny-Videos-55 @FunnyVideo55 keeps us rolling with the sometimes obscure but always hysterical videos he finds and posts on his website All the Best of the Internet.  Sure, some may say he gets by on the humor of others, but he’s the one out there pulling it together and serving it up.  He’s a curator of funny and we appreciate him.
stephencolbert @stephencolbert Need we say more?
jonfavreau @jon_favreau Sure he’s the director of Iron Man and the forthcoming Iron Man 2, but he’s been funnier for longer than he’s been a director of comic book movies.  In fact, run out and see him in Couples Retreat this weekend and see if you don’t laugh more than usual.  He gets extra credit for being a New Orleans Saints fan too.
glinner @glinner is the Twitter account of Graham Linehan who, ‘apoligizes in advance’ for his tweets.  Of course we don’t think he has too, but to truly appreciate his humor you also need to check out his blog Why That’s Delightful.
nutty_newswire @NuttyNewswire keeps the funny coming all the time.  Their self described mission is to be, “Your central source for nutty, odd, strange, funny, (and sometimes downright sad) news stories from around the world — because truth is stranger than fiction.”  Find more on their website The Nutty Newswire.

the-onion @TheOnion presents themselves as Americas Finest News Source.  Of course, if you are are talking funny, satirical, and sarcastic news we think they own the world!
funny or die @funnyordie takes their humor very seriously.  We think you should too. Follow them and the rest of our list, or… you may die of boredom.

FOLLOW THEM ALL NOW – Click on the button there on the left.  Uses TweepML’s group follow app.  Just sign in and follow.

So, there they are! The TwitterFools Twitter Idol Winners for Top 10 Funny Tweeps.

We have to tell you though, that there was strong consideration given to one last minute entry – but alas @RealTracyMorgan didn’t join Twitter until late yesterday. Already he’s amassed 29k followers and we expect he’ll be a lot of fun to follow.  But, until he actually tweets on a regular basis…we can’t really give him a nod.  Tracy, if your reading this…start working now to earn the top spot next year!

Tell us what you think of this list. Did we miss one or more of your favorites?  Please share your nominations and other honorable mentions in the comments and we’ll consider them for the next round.

In the future we’ll be giving TwitterFools Twitter Idol awards in different categories. Let us know what you think we should work on next.

Until next time…be well, laugh a lot, and happy tweeting!

ShitmyDadSays? You've got to be kidding! Should be called "ShitI'veLuckedOutWith" Many, many funnier people I meet everyday!

It is a one-note very thin brand of comedy. Set up crusty old character (or wise-cracking 8 year old) and have them say inappropriate things for someone their age and standing. Remember Mother Dexter on old "Phyllis" show? (don't know your age). Always had the hots for Charles Bronson. Where was her spin-off?

And the writer doesn't even interact at all with other tweeters. Just posts his "funny" lines and goes off to do whatever 29 year olds do, probably watch SpongeBob. There are many talented people in LA trying to pitch better ideas for TV series who are being treated like Garrison Keillor treats the Jews. For example, here's the blog of someone way more talented, my friend of 35 years Andy Cowan, "Opposite Andy" at http://www.oppositeandy.com/

Anyway, sorry about the rant. Maybe it's because Sh*tmyDadSays has more followers than Tiger Woods has girlfriends, and I have...umm....171.

    Enjoy the snowstorm!
  • We tolerate rants around here, no worries. Thanks for the pointer about Opposite Andy - we'll check it out.

Thank you! Didn't mean to seem obnoxious or mean-spirited. I just know there are much better folk around, including many young and probably starving young comedians on Twitter.

    Appreciate your kind reply.
